Jaz Karis – ‘Safe Flight’ is preparing to fly

Jaz Karis’ latest album Safe Flight, released on September 20, 2024, marks an exciting new chapter for the South London R&B artist. The album, which takes its name from the heartfelt farewells she often receives from her family before embarking on international work trips, explores themes of growth, self-discovery, and emotional journeys. The title symbolizes both the physical and metaphorical travels Karis has experienced over the past year, with the majority of the album being crafted in Los Angeles, as well as other locations like New York, Atlanta, and Ghana. Only one track, “Love Me,” was recorded in her hometown of London, making this project a truly global creation.

Safe Flight is a 13-track collection that blends soulful R&B with elements of afropop, acoustic melodies, and introspective ballads. Karis’ collaborations with artists such as Mahalia, Tone Stith, and Reekado Banks highlight the album’s diverse soundscapes, which reflect her own multicultural experiences. Standout tracks like “Prayer” and “Chill On Me” capture both vulnerability and optimism, while “Tequila” transports listeners to tropical rhythms.

Karis has described the album as a cohesive narrative, taking listeners on a cyclical journey through her memories, travels, and emotions. From the sentimental opening track “Nostalgia” to the introspective closer “Prayer,” Safe Flight balances moments of reflection with upbeat, adventurous sounds, demonstrating her impressive versatility as an artist. The album is infused with the soul that has become her signature, making it a standout project in contemporary R&B.

Karis plans to commemorate the album with performances in both Los Angeles and London later this year, further cementing her place as a rising star in the global music scene.  (UPROXX)(Earmilk)(YouGotSoul)(Melodic Magazine).
