Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department (TTPD) has reclaimed the top spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart, surging from No. 8 to No. 1 on the December 14-dated chart. The album’s rise follows the release of its deluxe Anthology edition, available exclusively at Target stores in the U.S., which contributed significantly to its performance. The album earned 405,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. during the week ending December 5, marking an 839% increase. This includes 368,000 in traditional album sales, driven largely by physical formats like vinyl and CDs. It’s the strongest week for any album since TTPD’s own second week earlier this year

Originally released on April 19, 2024, as a 16-song digital album, Swift quickly expanded TTPD into a 31-track Anthology version with 15 additional songs. This expanded edition became available physically for the first time on November 29, 2024, exclusively at Target. These physical versions included four bonus acoustic tracks, adding to their appeal

With its 16th week at No. 1, TTPD becomes Swift’s longest-running No. 1 album and secures its place as the third-longest-leading album by a female artist in Billboard 200 history. It surpasses Carole King’s Tapestry (15 weeks in 1971) and follows Adele’s 21 (24 weeks) and Whitney Houston’s The Bodyguard soundtrack (20 weeks). Swift also extends her record for the most cumulative weeks at No. 1 among solo artists, with 85 weeks, ahead of Elvis Presley’s 67 weeks. She ties Jay-Z for the most No. 1 albums among soloists, with 14

.The milestone coincides with the conclusion of Swift’s massively successful Eras Tour, which wrapped up on December 8, 2024, in Vancouver after 149 sold-out shows across five continents. This tour further solidified her influence as a global cultural and musical icon

Meanwhile, the Billboard 200 welcomed Juice WRLD’s The Party Never Ends at No. 4, marking his sixth top-five entry. Additionally, holiday classics began entering the top 10, with Michael Bublé’s Christmas rising to No. 7 and Bing Crosby’s Ultimate Christmas debuting at No. 9. Crosby’s new holiday compilation brings him back to the top 10 for the first time in nearly 64 years, highlighting the enduring popularity of classic Christmas music
