100 songs turning 20 in 2025: From Girls Aloud to Oasis and Mariah Carey to McFly

Mariah Carey made a triumphant return in 2005, propelling three of her singles into the Top 10: “It’s Like That” reached Number 4, “We Belong Together” climbed to Number 2, and “Get Your Number/Shake It Off” hit Number 8. Another single, “Don’t Forget About Us,” nearly joined them, peaking at Number 11. All these hits came from her celebrated album “The Emancipation of Mimi,” which secured the Number 7 spot and remained on the Official Albums Chart for 50 weeks across 2005 and 2006.

The pop scene was bustling on the Official Singles Chart as well. Girls Aloud added three more Top 10 hits to their repertoire: “Long Hot Summer,” “Biology,” and “See The Day.” Rachel Stevens also enjoyed success with two Top 10 singles, “Negotiate with Love” and “So Good,” and another track, “I Said Never Again But Here We Are,” which peaked at Number 12.

Charlotte Church, transitioning from classical to pop, entered her Main Pop Girl era with two Top 10 hits, “Crazy Chick” and “Call My Name,” from her album “Tissues and Issues,” which reached Number 5.

The year closed with two monumental Number 1 singles: Arctic Monkeys’ electrifying debut “I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor” and Madonna’s iconic ABBA-sampling track “Hung Up.” The year was packed with memorable music, and these highlights are just a glimpse into the rich tapestry of 2005’s pop music scene.
