The former Roc-A-Fella femcee opens up about leaving the industry and sets the record straight about a parody Twitter account.

Amil, the former Roc-A-Fella artist who made her mark with Jay-Z’s “Can I Get A…,” recently opened up about her desire for closure with the mogul. Despite her impactful contributions to the label in the late ’90s, Amil left the industry after her debut album, A.M.I.L. (All Money Is Legal), due to personal and professional challenges. Reflecting on the experience, she shared that she wishes she could talk to Jay-Z to find closure, emphasizing that there was never any animosity between them—only the overwhelming nature of the career path she had been thrust into. She explained that she wasn’t mentally prepared for the music industry’s demands, which led her to rebel and eventually step away.

Amil also addressed a recent controversy involving a parody Twitter account that had been posting under her name, causing confusion among fans. She clarified that she has never had a social media presence, debunking the notion that she was behind the account and highlighting how frustrating it was to be misrepresented online.

While she doesn’t regret her decision to leave the spotlight, Amil is now working on new music, including a mixtape that revisits the sounds of the ’90s. Fans can expect a more mature version of the artist who once stood alongside Jay-Z, but with a focus on R&B and collaborations with other ’90s artists.
